For a long time now, I have watched both Pakistan and China have realised they are two sides of the same coin. Both tell blatant lies to the world. Both are basically ideologically conceived countries, one on being Islamic and the other on being Communist, but they seem to be conjoined twins and have learnt how to fool the world together.
Neither really believes in human rights or the Human Rights Charter of the United Nations. Both try to coerce nations by deceit, and both in their own ways export terror- China in a subtle way via money and clout and Pakistan more overtly through terror proxies the world over.
There are many interesting videos on You Tube that have both Pakistani and Chinese living abroad who say openly that there has never been a terror attack anywhere in the world that Pakistan was not involved in. This they say was both overtly and covertly by encouraging their land to become a go-to-place for training terrorists. In China they did it more covertly by convincing the world that they only believed in capitalism, even as they salami-sliced the South China Sea and Tibet and even parts of Northern India, till India hit back. But both countries are partners and will use each other till death do them apart.
The most astounding part for me, as a journalist, was the way both countries seemed to speak with the same template— the world was against them and the victimhood opinion pieces were so alike whether it be Dawn News or the Global Times.
Both warned against so called games being played against them, both are heavily into conspiracy theories and both try and brainwash their people with their ideology- one with Islamism and the other with a concoction of growth with Chinese characteristics. The latter thinks Islam is like cancer and this has been reported extensively, and in addition, it has put two million Muslims in re-education camps, yet you will never hear Pakistan and it’s highly radicalised Mullahs say a word against the human rights of Uighers, and I include Imran Khan in this group. He can actually rave and rant at the UN against Islamophobia in the West without ever mentioning China.
As I said Pakistan and China are two sides of the same coin. They are literally trying to fool the world and I am sad to say that Wall Street and some politicians in the West and India are living in denial. They fall for the China growth story and that “Pakistan as a victim of America’s wars” rant.
Unfortunately, for India, we literally have to fend for ourselves with both China and Pakistan, against us. Yes, we have the Quad, and yes we have many more friends than Pakistan has but we literally live next to the two most violent countries in the world.
Europe, the US and Australia are good friends but distant neighbours.
I don’t yet see our friends reacting to what China or Pakistan is doing to us in real time. I just wrote about how five of our soldiers were killed by Pakistani terrorists on the Line of Control and how Hindus and Sikhs are being targeted and killed in Kashmir. Or even how China is trying its salami slicing on our Northern borders.
I don’t see mainstream media or politicians from major democracies condemning what is happening in our neck of the woods. Unlike the US, Europe, Australia, we in India face daily threats and have our soldiers and citizens dying everyday for years in the line of fire, even when there is no declaration of war.
We have lived and survived through many wars from 1948 to the present time. Some have been overt and many have been covert. We have had terrorist attacks on our parliament and our cities as in 1993, 2001 and 26/11. We have had our country invaded time and again in 1948, 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1999.
Apart from this we have lived through terrorist bombings in all our major cities with countless lives being lost and yet the world actually tries to hit us with human rights abuses.
Having lived in America and Thailand and having traveled to 60 countries as a journalist and a tourist, I can say with conviction that I stand proud as an Indian.
My country has never invaded another nor have we ever tried to force our philosophy, which is not part of the Abrahamic religions, by force on any other civilisation.
We are not believers but seekers and I am convinced that like the greatest thinkers and philosophers of the past who believed that our Vedas were the most profound gift to the world, we will once again be able to teach our future generations what we lost when we were invaded and lived through a 1000 years of occupation.
I only pray that at this point of time, when we have both Pakistan and China, trying to bring us down, we can depend on our friends.
But most of all we need to depend on ourselves and our citizens to rise to the occasion from all political parties and all walks of life. This is what we owe to our soldiers who died defending us. This is what we owe also to our citizens who were killed in mindless terror attacks. This is what we owe to future generations of Indians yet to be born.
Never forget. Never stop standing up for our motherland, our patriots, our armed forces and our citizens who have paid with their lives.
